Do you remember the day you learned to ride a bike? Remember how free, independent and excited you felt?
We do. In fact, that moment was so special to us that we work hard Every Day to show Every Kid in Every Community the joy of riding a bike and the freedom to explore the natural world on two wheels, especially lower-income youth who wouldn’t otherwise have access to a bike or safe, natural places to ride.
Trips for Kids is a national movement that teaches valuable life skills with the bike at the core of our programming. From STEM and vocational skills to personal responsibility and healthy habits, we believe the bike is uniquely capable of teaching lifelong lessons in a positive, hands-on, engaging way.
Founded over 30 years ago, Trips for Kids has introduced the joy of cycling to over 230,000 kids. We have a vast network of community chapters and are now the largest bicycle-based positive youth development program in North America. We serve 25,000 youth annually, ages 10-17, in communities of all sizes throughout the country, from the tiniest villages to America’s largest cities.
We're so excited to be part of the USA Today Network Community Thrives CrowdRise Competition. Our goal is to raise the most money possible for our cause and win a grant of $25,000!
The grant will help us to launch our new Pedaling Forward to Brighter Futures Campaign. We will develop the curriculum, training, and tools needed to strengthen our local chapters and position new chapters to offer the full breadth of our positive youth development programs.
Our programs help youth connect to nature and STEM learning, learn and earn their own bicycle and job readiness skills, and experience healthy, physical activity:
- Discovery Trail Rides and Adventure Clubs take youth on fun, safe group bike rides to parks and other natural places, while building self-esteem and teaching environmental awareness;
- Earn-a-Bike Workshops teach kids how to work with their hands, STEM literacy, basic bike maintenance, and the opportunity to earn a bike of their own;
- Mobile Bike Clinics bring these two programs to kids within their own neighborhoods; and
- Youth@Work programs provide opportunities for job readiness skills and youth leadership.
Changing lives starts with you:
Donate $25, $50, $75, $250 or $500 today, and help us serve more kids.
Your donation ensures that all kids have the opportunity to lead active, healthy lives, no matter where they live or their family income level.
Your donation supports programs that advance STEM learning and help youth gain valuable work and leadership skills under positive adult guidance.
We are often amazed by the transformative experience that kids, parents, teachers and community partners share with us:
“The harsh reality is that many of our program participants come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Without Trips for Kids many of our students would not have the opportunity to ride a bike, let alone learn bike safety and repair...As a result, students do a better job of focusing on their homework and participating in other programs.” - Director of Operations, Boys and Girls Club
"I learned to respect nature and to respect others." - Keisha
“I really enjoyed bike riding with Trips for Kids. Trips for Kids taught me how to ride mountain bike, which was hard at first then I got the hang of it. Trips for Kids also taught me that if you push yourself you can do anything you want to do in life." - Riley
“Everyone at Trips for Kids was there to help. I work at Firestone and started out as a technician, just working with my hands again, something I knew about growing up with the Earn-a-Bike Program. The program gave me access to a skilled trade and soon after I built my way up and now I’m [the] manager at Firestone.” - Alex Zamarripa
Shouldn’t all kids get to experience this?
Make a donation of any amount today. Large or small, every donation makes a difference in the lives of youth. Together we are making it possible for more kids to have a safe place to ride, learn, play and thrive.
